Conclusion Ceremony for the 2019 “Belt and Road Economic Law Student Practice Center” Project

       On the afternoon of June 21st, the conclusion ceremony for the 2019 “Belt and Road High Economic Law Student Practice Center” Project was held on Changning campus.

  Liu Xie, the Deputy District Governor of Jing’an District, Shanghai, Ling Shurong, the Director of the Bureau of Justice of Jing’an District, Pan Yu, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Bar Association, Chen Jingying, the Vice President of ECUPL, Xia Fei, the Director of the International Exchange Center of ECUPL, Liu Danhua, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Graduate School of ECUPL, 11 representatives of law firms and 22 students from the Belt and Road Economic Law master’s class attended the summary meeting.

 Chen Jingying congratulated all the trainees for successfully completing the internship and obtaining their degrees, and thanked the Jing’an District Bureau of Justice, the Jing’an District Legal Work Committee, and the 11 Jing’an District law firms that took part in the practice center project. She fully approved of the way the joint internationalized training was carried out between ECUPL and the practical study departments, and hoped that all parties would continuously improve their quality on the basis of maintaining this cooperation, so that these young students from countries participating in the “Belt and Road Initiative” can gain a deeper understanding of China’s legal system on both theoretical and practical levels.

  In her speech, Liu Xie expressed her appreciation for the success of the 2019 practice base project, and pointed out that the practice base is highly compatible and perfectly connected with Shanghai’s spirit of inclusiveness, its pursuit of excellence, openness, wisdom and humility, as well as with the Jing’an District Global Service Provider Plan and the Ministry of Justice’s strategy to accelerate the development of foreign-related laws.

  Representatives of the mentors from the law firms and outstanding students gave separate speeches. The representative of the law firms congratulated the trainees in their speech, reviewed the six weeks they spent together and the friendships they established, and looked forward to getting feedback from the trainees in order to further optimize the project. As a representative of the outstanding trainees, Abijit Sharma, a Nepalese student, expressed his gratitude to ECUPL, the Jing’an District Bureau of Justice and the 11 law firms, and thanked them for providing such a rare opportunity to learn and practice, and for allowing them to obtain precious internship experience in top Chinese law firms for a month.


 In her speech, Ling Shurong thanked ECUPL and the 11 law firms for their work in the realization of the “Belt and Road Initiative” and for the careful guidance of the law firm teachers. At the same time, she looked forward to hearing the students’ valuable opinions and suggestions, so as to further improve the foreign legal services in Jing’an, which she deemed worthy of the title “International Jing’an”.

  Representatives of the Jing’an District Bureau of Justice and the law firms presented ECUPL and the students with summary pictures and souvenirs from the practice base.


        The formal agreement for the “Belt and Road Economic Law Student Practice Center” Project was signed in September 2017, and it officially began at ECUPL on April 12th the following year. Students of the 2018 Youth of Excellence Scheme of China had a one-month internship in 11 law firms in Jing’an District, and completed a number of academic and internship tasks under the guidance of dual tutors arranged by the school and the law firms.
