From November 11 to December 15, the 2018 Shanghai Winter School jointly organized by ECUPL and the School of Law at the University of Sydney was held at ECUPL. Two teachers and 31 students from the University of Sydney's School of Law attended this three-week law study course at ECUPL.
During the program, the students had more than ten different classes, on topics such as the Chinese legal system, Chinese legal history, intellectual property and so on. Classes were all taught in English by ECUPL’s teachers, and the students also took final exams. Moreover, they were able to visit the Shanghai High People’s Court and Grandall Law Firm, and exchange their thoughts and experiences with legal practitioners. In addition to their studies, the International Exchange Center of ECUPL also arranged a variety of activities for the participants including city tours, and the students of the ECUPL LLM Education Center also had various forms of interaction and communication with them. Through this learning experience, the participants not only enjoyed the Chinese cultural charms of Shanghai, but also gained a systematic and in-depth understanding of the Chinese legal system, which all contributed to the expansion of their professional knowledge and international vision.
This program was established in 1995, and this year marks the 25th time it has been held. As the first routine exchange program between Chinese and Australian universities in the field of law, this program has played a positive role in promoting young law students' understanding of the legal system and the social culture of both countries.
