On 12th April, the inauguration ceremony of International School, ECUPL and roundtable on post-pandemic international education was held on Changning campus, ECUPL. ECUPL’s Chair of the University Affairs Committee Prof. Guo Weilu, President Prof. Ye Qing, and Vice President Prof. Chen Jingying; Mr. Zhu Gaozhang, former Director of Compliance and Facilitation Directorate of World Customs Organization & former Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation of General Administration of Customs & President of China Customs Brokers Association, Prof. Jiang Feng, Chair of the University Council of Shanghai International Studies University, and Mr. Wu Yingjun, Director of International Exchange Office of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission attended the event. Prof. Chen Jingying presided over the ceremony.
Mr. Zhu Gaozhang recognized ECUPL’s achievements made in international talent cultivation over the years and indicated that the institutional contribution to cross-border talent cultivation is in slight shortage. As China plays an increasingly essential role in global governance, it is his belief that ECUPL launching the International School will be a greater asset to the course.
Prof. Jiang Feng commented that the establishment of International School is vital to expanding the opening-up of education in the new era. He hoped that SISU sustain an all-round strategic cooperation with ECUPL towards higher levels of internationalization in education.
Director Wu Yingjun pointed out that the International School inaugurated is a step of innovation in such post-pandemic era. A new brand of international study in Shanghai is in the make.
Prof. Guo Weilu indicated that the establishment of International School is an important measure to implement the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party and is in line with President Xi’s comments to promote greater openness in education. The purpose of International School is to cultivate more higher-end talents with global visions who familiarize with international rules as the “Study in ECUPL” brand of international programs becomes gradually rooted.
Following the inauguration ceremony, the roundtable on post-pandemic international education was held. The seminar was hosted by Prof. Wu Qiaofang, Director of the International Exchange Center & Dean of the International School.
Deans, Directors and representatives from Fudan University, Shanghai University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and a number of other partner universities in Shanghai presented their views and shared comments on International education in various regards.
In the closing speech, Prof. Chen Jingying concluded that we shall utilize all available resources to innovate talent cultivation models in the post-pandemic era; be devoted to the standardization regarding curriculum of national condition education; construct a platform for sharing English-taught courses in the Yangtze River Delta (including Shanghai Municipality, Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province) to further enhance the development of international education.
