On June 28th, the award ceremony of the 2023 “Tell China’s Stories”-“Foreign Cultural Trade” Talent Selection Competition for International Students in China was held by Culture Communication Center of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and Sinolingua Co. Ltd. in Beijing. ECUPL was invited to participate in the event and achieved excellent results.
The competition was officially launched in January 2023 and lasted for nearly five months. More than 8,000 international students from nearly 100 countries and more than 400 colleges and universities participated in the competition. ECUPL has actively mobilized international students to participate in the competition, students from many countries have submitted short video works which were rich in content and diverse in forms and angles, covering their personal experience of China's economic and social development, traditional customs, history, and cultural landscape, as well as their thoughts and feelings about campus life and teacher-student friendship.
My Encounter with China by Gadran, a Cambodian student, tells his story with China and shows his study achievements in university. The video shows his affection to China and ECUPL. Lao student Shi Liying's Journey to Chinese Red Culture shows her experiences in Jinggangshan, the historic landmark of revolution, and her full perception of the revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture nurtured in the great struggle of the Party and the people. After the evaluation by the organizing committee, they both received the “Cultural Mutual Learning and Friendship Award”. ECUPL was awarded the “Outstanding Colleges and Universities” Award, and Zheng Haoyuan from the International School was awarded as the “Excellent Instructor”.
ECUPL has been earnestly studying and thoroughly implementing the core idea of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech in the meeting on cultural inheritance and development. Starting from the dissemination of Chinese Culture, our university has continuously strived to enrich the cultural dimension of studying in China. Attaching great importance to the “receiver” and “disseminator” role of international students in China, we will strengthen and improve the cultural brand of “Studying in ECUPL, Perceiving China”. We will implement multiple initiatives to enable international students to “listen, understand and tell” China’s stories, so that the voice of China can be spread in a larger scale, and Chinese culture can be better demonstrated to the world.
