From August 30th to September 1st, Deputy Vice-Chancellor David Sadler, Vice-Chancellor Jennifer Anne Howell, the Dean of the School of Law Natalie Kym Skead, the International Affairs Manager of the Office of International Cooperation Rachel Darovic, the Program Counselor of the Office of International Cooperation and the Director of the Australian Education Association (AEA) Sandy Ng , the Head of the China Office Michelle Wang, the Manager of AEA John Qian, the Director of International Student Recruitment Trish Rechichi and other representatives of UWA visited Changning Campus and Songjiang Campus of ECUPL. They were received cordially by ECUPL’s President Ye Qing, Vice President Luo Peixin, Professor Wu Qiaofang, Director of International Exchange Center and Dean of International School, the Director of the Academic Affairs Office Hong Dongying, the Director of the Department of Student Affairs Chen Saijin, and Zhang Lijun, Li Yong and Han Yichou, Deputy Directors of International Exchange Center and Associate Deans of International School, and they held talks with each other.
Luo Peixin expressed warm welcome to the delegation of the University of Western Australia. He introduced the history and basic information of ECUPL, and briefly described the strengths, characteristics and international exchange and cooperation of ECUPL. Luo said that ECUPL has signed the memorandum of cooperation with UWA in 2019, followed by the rapid establishment of a close cooperative relationship, and the upcoming signing of the Sino-foreign Cooperative Law Program and the Joint Doctoral Cultivation Program under negotiation between the two universities are of great significance for enriching the connotation of cooperation between both sides and working together to create a bright future. He hoped that the sincere cooperation between the two universities can enrich the connotation of UWA-ECUPL Micro-Campus, and through diversified forms of cooperation, such as UWA Overseas Summer Camp and Summer School, the cooperation between the two universities in teaching and scientific research can be further deepened, and the exchanges between teachers and students of both sides can be strengthened for mutual development.
David Sadler pointed out that UWA has attached great importance to the connection and cooperation with its Chinese partners, and hoped that by means of the cooperation with ECUPL in the Cooperative Program and the Joint Doctoral Cultivation Program, the common internationalization vision of the two universities will be implemented to cultivate global leaders with a more international outlook. With a history of more than 100 years, UWA has grown into one of the world’s leading universities, ranking 72nd in the 2023 QS World University Rankings, and is the best university in Western Australia. The University of Western Australia currently has more than 27,000 students from more than 100 countries, including 2,200 Chinese students with over 900 undergraduates, about 1,200 postgraduates and 145 PhD students. He said that UWA put a high value on its cooperation with ECUPL this time, and hoped that the two universities would grow together and make the programs a model for future cooperation between Chinese and Australian higher education institutions.
At the meeting, the two sides signed the agreement on Sino-foreign Cooperative Undergraduate Program in Law (Foreign-related Rule of Law), the cultivation program and other documents. In the future, on the basis of ensuring the good performance of the “3+1+1” Program of Law and Business of both universities, ECUPL will continue to deepen the communication with UWA on the implementation of the Cooperative Program, the construction of UWA-ECUPL Micro-Campus, and the fulfillment of the Doctoral Joint Cultivation Program. After the meeting, the delegation of UWA visited the Gezhi Building, Taofen Building, Red Building Library, the Triangle Building Complex, the Suzhou River, and the office of the University of Western Australia Study Center. On the next day, they went to Songjiang Campus to visit the History Museum of ECUPL, Mingzhu Building (Songjiang Library), and the UWA Study Center and its classrooms.
International Exchange Center will continue to deepen the implementation of cooperation with high-quality institutions of higher learning in foreign countries and regions, and create a number of brand-name cooperation projects that are beneficial to accelerating the process of cultivating foreign-related talents in the rule of law, so as to make contributions to the further improvement of its level of internationalization and development.
