East China University of Political Science and Law

East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL) is one of the first higher education institutions of political science and law founded in the People’s Republic of China. In June 1952, with the approval of the East China Military and Political Committee, the law, political science, and social sciences departments of St. John's University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Soochow University, Xiamen University, University of Shanghai, Anhui University, Shanghai College, and Aurora University merged to establish East China University of Political Science and Law in the former site of St. John's University. In March 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed as East China University of Political Science and Law.

Over the years, the talents of ECUPL have followed the school motto of “Behave Sincerely and Learn Thirstily, Revere Virtues and Respect Laws”, and carried forward the tradition to “Rise in Adversity, Advancement in Awareness, and Brilliance in Excellence”. The university has grown into a multi-disciplinary university with distinctive features, outstanding in the discipline of law, but also excellent in economics, management, literature, engineering and other disciplines. ECUPL is known as the “Pearl of the Orient” in legal education. In the assessment of academic disciplines, the law discipline is ranked A, which is one of the top five in China.
