FromMay 28 to May 30, representatives of the faculty and students from ECUPLattended the 21st Annual Meeting of the Asian Law Institute(ASLI) atChulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. ASLI is one of the internationallegal academic research alliances that ECUPL has been involved in advocatingfor its establishment. As one of the founding member units from Mainland China,ECUPL has been chosen to host the 22nd Annual Meeting of ASLI, and will beresponsible for hosting this largest and most influential academic event in thefield of legal research in the Asia-Pacific region in 2025.
Theuniversity attaches great importance to the event. In May this year, LuoPeixin, vice president of ECUPL, convened a special meeting with the heads ofrelevant departments such as the Planning Office, Graduate School, FinanceOffice, General Service Office, and International Exchange Offce to arrange thepreparatory work regarding the event. The meeting conducted in-depthdiscussions and detailed planning around key issues such as budget, venueselection, facility equipment, technical support, and logistical services. VicePresident Luo also expressed his expectations for our faculty and students toparticipate in the 21st Annual Meeting of ASLI, encouraging everyone not onlyto engage in academic exchanges but also to learn from the experience ofhosting the event, which can lay a solid foundation for the successful hostingof next year’s annual meeting by ECUPL.
OnMay 28, at the Presidium meeting of the ASLI Board of Directors, Wu Qiaofang,Director of the International Exchange Office, proposed, in her capacity as apermanent member of the founding member council, to set the theme of the 22ndAnnual Meeting as “Discourses of Rule of Law: Asia’s Narratives”, which wasunanimously approved by the board. At the closing ceremony of this annualmeeting, Director Wu, on behalf of ECUPL, received the baton of hosting theannual meeting from Chulalongkorn University and introduced the preparationsfor the 22nd Annual Meeting of ASLI to the participants, extending a sincereinvitation to nearly 300 participants from law schools across the Asia-Pacificregion.
Atthe same time, at the invitation of the Secretariat of ASLI, Deputy DirectorsZhang Lijun and Han Yichou of the International Exchange Office also went toChulalongkorn University as observers to discuss the preparations and handovermatters for the 22nd annual meeting with the Secretariat. ChulalongkornUniveristy, the organizer of this year’s annual meeting, and the Secretariatexchanged and shared specific matters and work requirements related to thepreparations for the meeting, such as topic setting, venue layout, catering,transportation, and accommodation arrangements, with the representatives ofECUPL.
Throughthe selection of the organizer, Director Wu, Li Na, Ke Da, Wang Yifei, ZhangYichong, Song Shangcong and other ten faculty members and students from ECUPLwere selected from more than 320 global applicants to attend and present theirpapers at this year’s annual meeting. Among them, Director Wu, Li Na, Keda,Wang Yifei, and Zhang Yichong also delivered keynote speeches. Additionally,Chen Meiying, a faculty from School of Economic Law of ECUPL, was selected forthe 2024 ASLI Fellowship Visiting Scholar Program.
Duringthis trip to Thailand, ECUPL also reached a preliminary cooperation agreementwith the Supreme Court of Thailand and plans to cooperate on an English legaltraining program and an English doctoral program for judges of the SupremeCourt of Thailand in the near future.
