Visit of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to Our University

On April 10, 2025, representative from the Governance Services Department of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) visited the Changning Campus of East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL). The delegation was received by Han Yichou,Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office (and Vice Dean of the International School), and Hu Shuangsang, Head of the Project Section of the International Exchange Office.

 

Han Yichou introduced ECUPL’sstrategic advantages as a Shanghai-based institution, its reform initiatives topromote high-quality development, and its achievements in cultivating talent inforeign-related legal studies, particularly in international environmental law.Hu Shuangsang provided an overview of ECUPL’s student internship programs at international organizations and its talent reserve mechanism for international organization roles.

 

The WMO representative reviewed previous discussions and agreements with ECUPL regarding cooperation frameworks, key terms, and collaborative content. They also shared successful cooperation models between WMO and domestic institutions such as Nanjing University, exploring potential collaborations with ECUPL in internship programs, joint research, and academic publications.

 

During the meeting, a remote discussion was held with the China Meteorological Administration Development and Planning Institute. The three parties explored the concept of a jointresearch project on national meteorological disaster reduction laws. The collaboration aims to integrate China’s meteorological resources with ECUPL’s strengths in legal studies to advance substantive progress in legal and policyresearch on meteorological disaster reduction. This effort is expected to contribute significantly to global governance, legal development, and international cooperation in meteorology.

 

Additionally, the WMO representative engaged with ECUPL students in an interactive session, delivering a keynote presentation titled "Standing on the World Stage: The Charm and Opportunities of Careers in the United Nations and International  Organizations."
