On 31 October 2026, the closing ceremony and showcase of the 5th “China in My Eyes” (CiME) Foreigners Telling China Stories Vlog Project took place at Jing'an Global Connect in Shanghai. The event was jointly organised by the Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association (SORSA) and the Shanghai Jing'an Overseas Friendship Association. ECUPL’s international students received recognition for their shortvideos, featuring distinctive perspectives and compelling personal narratives, and the University received an award for its outstanding organisational contribution to the event.

The project invited foreign nationals living in China to submit short videos, documenting their experiences and impressions of the country and sharing authentic and engaging stories about China. Following several rounds of assessment, Bringing Chinese Law Back Home, created by Nigerian doctoral student Obialor Noble Ik, stood out among the submissions and earned its creator an award for outstanding directing. A Foreign Legal Professional Explores Jing'an by Lim Yseang, a Cambodian master's graduate, was included on the shortlist of outstanding works.

Obialor Noble Ik has a long standing commitment to the study of law. Drawing on his experience of pursuing a doctorate in law in China, Bringing Chinese Law Back Home traces his engagement with Chinese law, his deepening understanding of the principles of the rule of law,and his aspiration to put the knowledge he has acquired in China into practice in his home country and promote legal exchange between China and other countries.A Foreign Legal Professional Explores Jing’an, created by Lim Yseang, a Cambodian graduate of ECUPL’s master programme, offers an immersive account of grass roots rule-of-law practices in Shanghai’s Jing’an District from the perspective of an international law student. Through her lens, the video presents vivid examples of China’s efforts to advance the rule of law at the community level. Combining professional insight with a strong human dimension, the two works draw on the distinctive perspectives of international legal professionals to foster dialogue and understanding between the legal cultures of China and other countries.

ECUPL has long attached great importance to the education and development of international students. Drawing on its distinctive strengths in legal education, the university provides opportunities for international students to experience China first-hand and deepen their understanding of the country, while encouraging them to act as bridges between China and the wider world. ECUPL will continue to make use of arange of cultural exchange platforms to support international students in sharing their experiences and perspectives on China, promote mutual learning between Chinese and other civilisations, and enhance the reach and effectiveness of its international engagement.
